Byosen itself translates to Accumulation of Sickness. A byosen body scan is a powerful feedback mechanism for the practitioner as it informs where there may be stagnant energy to be released and where Reiki is most needed. It is performed by the practitioner holding their hands above the body of the person receiving healing and moving slowly the length of the body. The experienced practitioner will receive information through means of physical sensation in their hands such as feeling pulled like a gentle magnet, changes in temperature, other physical sensations, or intuition as to the areas requiring most attention.
You may experience sensations such as a gentle tingling similar to that of slight pins and needles, you may feel a change in temperature in areas of your body or all over, this could be a warm or a cold feeling, You may also feel different emotions arise throughout as the energy releases. You could experience visions in your minds eye, dancing displays of colours has been a common theme for many clients. You could also experience no emotional or physical sensations at all, this is nothing to be concerned about, and it does not mean that Reiki healing isn't working for you, it will be, regardless of what you may or may not feel. Each session will be different.
It is best to wear comfortable, loose fitting clothing. Always try to arrive with an empty bladder as you will wish to enable yourself to lay comfortably whilst you are enjoying your relaxation. Always ensure to drink plenty of water after your session as your body will be clearing out the previous stagnant energy, and you will want to help your body release this quickly and efficiently.
